Trainees near Balakot City, Pakistan

Caption: Trainees at the CWS-supported Bissian Construction Trade Training Center, just outside of Balakot City, Pakistan, have honed their skills construction skills and built this first home.  The construction employs a simple technology of pressed straw and plaster as a basic building material.  Such homes are quake resistant, environmentally friendly, and well-insulated against the harsh mountain weather.  The CWS program is in conjunction with DOSTI, a local Pakistani partner.

Graduates of the Giving Hope program in Rwanda

Caption: "Getting down to business."  Four "graduates" of the Giving Hope program in Gitarama, Rwanda, have opened a cooperative tailoring shop.  One-fourth of their profits are invested in their business fund.  The balance is divided four ways among the partners.
